While the beautiful weather hasn’t stuck around in Kentucky, the solid horse racing has. There are two graded stakes races this weekend at Keeneland Race Course for the horse racing enthusiast to keep an eye on.
Friday will see the 21st running of the $150,000 Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland Race Course. While the weather might not be in the horse racing fan’s favor, the wagering should be for this 1 1/16 turf race for 3-year-old fillies. The high is expected to be a chilly 58 degrees but the lack of a true favorite in this 12 horse field will surely warm some betting blood.
The current favorite seems to be Bizzy Caroline, a horse coming off two straight off-the-board finishes in her last 2 graded stakes opportunities at Hollywood Park and Del Mar. But this seems to be a horse that likes to race in the Bluegrass so perhaps Keeneland can set her straight. She broke her maiden at Keeneland in April and went on to win two straight at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.
Other notables in the Valley View are In Step, Pinch Pie, Smart Sting, and Dynamic Holiday. In Step and Smart Sting are coming off victories at Belmont in the Queen Tutta and the Selene at Woodbine, respectively. Pinch Pie hasn’t won since July while Dynamic Holiday hasn’t crossed the wire first since March. All in all, it seems to be any horse’s race but should prove interesting nonetheless.
On Saturday, Keeneland will host the $300,000 Grade 2 Lexus Raven Run Stakes, a 7 furlong race also for 3-year-old fillies. This race is also sporting a full field and lots of questions. The only graded stakes winners of the bunch are Groupie Doll (G3-Gardenia) and Hot Summer (G3-Comely). Mizdirection, Strike the Moon and Roman Treasure are all coming off victories while Grandacious and Ms. Cruisen’ come in as maidens.
