The second pool of Kentucky Derby Future Wagering kicks off its three day run on Friday with the field once again set as the favorite. Churchill Downs odds maker Mike Battaglia put the field at 3-1, as the field has ended early wagering as the favorite in every pool since the inception of program. Two new horses to the pool are Verrazano and Super Ninety Nine and they have early odds set at 10-1. Overall, there were six horses added to the pool, including Fountain of Youth winner Orb and Ive Struck A Nerve, who won the Risen Star Stakes and took over the Kentucky Derby Championship Series standings lead. There are several notable horses that seemed promising over the winter, and were included in the first pool, but have been dropped this time around and they include Capo Bastone, He’s Had Enough, and Violence. Violence is now off the Derby trail since sustaining a leg injury that was discovered after his second place finish in the Fountain of Youth Stakes.

The Grade III Gotham Stakes is scheduled to go off on Saturday at Aqueduct and will feature a field of 12 horses, including Remsen and Futurity Stakes winner Overanalyze. Overanalyze holds the fourth position on the Top 5 Derby Contender list and is ranked fifth by  While Todd Pletcher’s highly rated colt is likely to be favored at post time, be sure to keep an eye on the Rudy Rodriguez trained Vyjack, who is coming off a win in the Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct and is undefeated in three starts.
