Betting on the first pool of this year’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) opens at noon (eastern) on Friday, Feb. 18 and concludes at 6 p.m. (eastern) Sunday, Feb. 20.
Uncle Mo, the unbeaten 2-year-old Eclipse award-winning champion of 2010 and winner of the Grade I Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs in November, is the strong named-horse favorite in the first betting pool of three for the KDFW. The mutuel field, better known as “All Others,” is expected to again be the bettors’ favorite choice when the Feb. 18-20 pool closes.
The mutuel field (betting interest #24) includes all other 3-year-old thoroughbreds other than the 23 individual horses named as betting interests in the three-day pool. The betting interest of “All Others” was listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite with the Todd Pletcher-trained Uncle Mo (#23) the second choice at 9-2.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager gives racing fans the opportunity to wager on potential Derby starters odds which could be more attractive than those available on Derby Day. It offers both win and exacta wagering. No refunds are given on any wagers made during any of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools, even if a horse does not start in the Kentucky Derby race.
A three-member committee including Daily Racing Form nationally renowned handicapper Mike Watchmaker, Churchill Downs Vice President of Racing John Asher, and west coast correspondent Brad Free combine together to choose the wagering interests making up the pool. Wagering for Pool 2 is set for March 11-13, and pool 3 will be from April 1-3.
