With April upon us, it’s time to get serious about which thoroughbreds are going to be real contenders for the Kentucky Derby. Beginning on March 31st, we’ll have several weekends with the top three-year-olds squaring off in their final races before May 4th. It’s time to separate the pretenders from the contenders and get down to business. The most closely watched races are likely to be the Grade I Florida Derby, as it will feature no fewer than three Kentucky Derby hopefuls, including the early wagering favorite, Union Rags. The Arkansas Derby also figures to be one to watch as the Bob Baffert trained Secret Circle and Bodemeister will compete against Steve Asmussen’s Saber Cat. Fan favorite Hansen has moved to Kentucky in preparation for the “Run for the Roses” and will take part in the Bluegrass Stakes on April 14th. This is the most exciting time of the year for racing fans, and to help you keep an eye on these races, is providing you with this list of top Derby preps, so you can follow the action!
