According to trainer Dale Romans,
Dullahan, winner of last months Pacific Classic, is likely to run
next in the Grade I Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park on
September 29th. Dullahan is quickly being pegged as a colt
who can only win on a synthetic surface, as all three of his graded
stakes victories have come on Polytrack. The move to running on turf
could be a signal that Dullahan will run in the Breeders Cup Turf in
Paynter, the late blooming
three-year-old who finished second in the Belmont Stakes to Union
Rags, and won the Haskell Invitational convincingly, is fighting for
his life accoring to owner Ahmad Zayat through Twitter. The colt has
been ill, suffering from colitis, for quite some time, but has
recently developed laminitis in three of his legs. Paynter has an
uphill battle and is the latest three-year-old to fall victim to
illness or injury in a season that has seen the biggest stars of the
division falling to illness and injury.
Congratulations are in order for jockey
Rafael Bejarano, as he won his 13th graded stakes race,
and 52nd win overall aboard Rolling Fog in the Del Mar
Futurity on Wednesday. Bejarano was battling Garrett Gomez to be the
top jockey of the Del Mar summmer meet, but he pulled away in the
second half and won his second riding championship at the west coast
track. The top horse of the meet was Dullahan and the top trainer was
Peter Miller who edged out Bob Baffert by posting 21 wins.
Belmont Park will open its fall meet on
Saturday and to celebrate, the track is offering free grandstand

meet will host 21 graded stakes races, including its Super Saturday
on September 29th, in which top events such as the Joe
Hirsch Turf Classic, the Jockey Gold Club Invitational, and the
