Churchill Downs continues to add to its facelift by announcing the creation of “The Mansion”, which will be the highest level of seating at the track and will feature premium amenities unlike any other in the racing industry. The announcement about the changes was made at a press conference at Churchill Downs on July 31st, presided over by track president Kevin Flanery.

According to Flanery, Churchill Downs has made roughly $150 million worth of changes and upgrades to America’s most famous thoroughbred track over the past ten or so years. To facilitate the changes, the old paddock, which also served as an auxiliary press box, will be torn down and the “Gold Room” will move to the Champions Lounge on the second floor. The track has moved some of their executive offices off-site which helped create space for “The Mansion”, a new media center, and a place for fans to gather similar to the Paddock Pavilion.

Over 300 patrons will be able to take advantage of “The Mansion”, and it will be a definite upgrade from Churchill Downs current top tier place to view races, “Millionaires Row”. The addition will give high spending guests the best view of the track and will be situated on the sixth floor. Other features will include a private elevator, balcony, dining room, and private bars, all of which will be designed with all the comforts one could imagine would exist in the wealthiest of homes. At this time, pricing for tickets to this exclusive area have not been revealed, but this will certainly be the place where many celebrities will spend their afternoon when they make their way to the Kentucky Derby in 2014. Thoroughbred racing has seen attendance and wagering spike this spring and summer and seems to be investing in its future, with Churchill Downs leading the way.
